Horrible Blogger

I’ve been a horrible blogger and a horrible testament to my love of holidays! Work and a terrible cold has kept me down the last month and even though I fought the Christmas rush that overcomes Thanksgiving, my blog didn’t show that!

I completely left out Thanksgiving! I did take some pictures of my Thanksgiving decorations, but honestly we didn’t do much. Our first Thanksgiving as a married couple was actually very nice. We made the decision to stop trying to do two Thanksgivings in one day, where we end up not having enough time to enjoy either family or the wonderful food. So we have decided on Thanksgiving we will swap sides of the family, this year was at the Glaze’s and it was great!

So super short post, but I promise a lot of Christmas posts are to come, decorations, crafts, cooking, I LOVE CHRISTMAS!

Leave you with a purchase I made that serves as both Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations! I absolutely love it!

Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving!

Christmas!

Christmas!

It’s so fun and a great addition to my piano top decor. You can buy one on stickwithmevinyl‘s etsy shop! She has lots of cute things!

Happy Halloween

Downside to living in a small neighborhood….only one trick-or-treater.

We sill had a cute house though! Need more decorations for next year, and maybe we’ll have more visitors! Look at our pumpkins. Mummy and alien!

Halloween Decor

So as I’ve said before, holidays were a big thing with my family growing up. Decorations for them all. As our first real holiday in the house approaches….HAAPY HALLOWEEN….. I’ve realized 2 things…

1. (cute) Decorations cost a lot

2. It really takes time to accumulate things you feel proud to decorate your house with (this is true in general with decorations, not just holiday focused…it’s been a hard thing for me to realize, when I want everything perfect NOW).

So, I don’t have many decorations this year, and I feel this will probably remain true until we eventually add “little Glazes” to the mix, as it will mean more as a family. But, I”m happy with my start.

A mini tour of Halloween at the Glaze household this year…

the scare crow came from Dollar Tree..not uber cute, but for a dollar, come on!

That’s it for now.. we still have to carve pumpkins, but that will be all for this year.

I know my talented hubby will be making a kick butt pumpkin again that will be worth sharing! So be on the lookout for that!

Hubby-made: Kitchen Table!

I have one talented hubby. I’m so lucky that he’s found a hobby of building things, and even more so, because he’s pretty dang good at it!

We have this awkward space in front of the doors to our beloved screened in porch. It is obviously supposed to be for the kitchen table, but the previous owners actually added the porch on, so the doors leading to it weren’t actually put in to meet the design of having a kitchen table fit. That being said, I still wanted a kitchen table.

I grew up eating only at the kitchen table, so I knew that as our family grows (not saying that will be any time soon), eating on the coffee table just won’t feel the same. So, I’ve been on the hunt for a small kitchen table to add to the space.

There is a Ballard Design Outlet not far from my work, so on lunch one day I saw that they had round tabletops for $25.00. I came back with Joe that weekend so he could see. They were small, didn’t match any of the stands and had no matching leafs, but they were well built and cheap… so we bought one.

Joe then went to work in his shed on building us a stand. And such a pretty stand and table he made! See below to see the process of our table coming together 🙂

isn’t he handsome and manly 🙂

And then the painting, (green, my favorite) and TA DAH!

Next was to find chairs…and get rid of that rug, which was actually my reason for going to ballard in the first place, and now the table makes the rug look bad, not complaining, just needed to move it.

Halloween Wreath – How To

My family was always big on holiday directions, Halloween, Easter, Christmas, valentines day, you name it, my mom decorated the house for it. Nothing overboard, but always a little something to get us excited about the upcoming day. I’ve been excited about decorating our house for holidays as well, but I’ve realized that decorations are better accumulated over time, they requite money and time… I figured most of my decorations will have to come as years go by, and so I can buy them when they go on sale right after they are over 🙂

But, I saw this cute Halloween wreath on etsy and thought… I could make something like that. It turned out to be really easy, and a fun project one Sunday afternoon while Joe worked.

Here’s what I ended up with!

New Coasters

I’m always encouraging the hubby to use coasters, but both of our picture coasters from our separate apartments were disgusting so did not make it to the new house.

I’ve made coasters as gifts for friends in previous years and decided it was past time to make some for our home. I went to trusty pinterest and followed these instructions.

Nothing like 16 cent tiles, a dig into the craft closet for unused paper and leftover felt dots from your cabinets to make a cute new home addition that doubles as a table savers ( you know from the rings from all the cups left around 🙂  )

China Cabinet Project

Since we moved in to our house just under two months before our wedding, we had a steady supply of wonderful gifts being delivered as we were settling in. Unfortunately we had no place to put all of the beautiful, non-everyday dishes and gifts, so they lay, in their boxes, lining our living and dining rooms for almost 6 months.

That is until, we were given this little beauty…

Joe’s sister was moving out of her house and had no use for their Grandmother’s china cabinet, so we were given the china cabinet to do as we wish, as long as it remained in the family.
